Meet Dr. Wen Chong

I consider myself to be very privileged to be in this line of work and able to witness strength and resilience in folks in their most vulnerable moments. It is my belief that you have the resources to make changes, and my goal is to be able to help you gain clarity and utilize those resources. Change is absolutely possible, and it sometimes just takes a little bit of discovery. I’d love to help you to get to the next chapter through a mutual partnership!

Hi! Thank you for considering me as your treating therapist.

Research has shown that the therapeutic relationship is a strong predictor of the outcome of therapy, so it is important that you find a therapist that you feel connected with!

A psychologist, coffee & tea lover, and self-proclaimed foodie

My approach in therapy is an integration of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Interpersonal Process Therapy. I also draw from early relationship patterns as well as the consideration of your social-cultural and developmental context to understand your concerns and your perceptions of distress. This evidence-based treatment focus on approaching mental health struggles with compassion, and promotes well-being as experiencing the full vitality of life, while building tools to increase distress tolerance and improve relationships. They also enable me to look beyond the list of symptoms that you may be experiencing, and help us optimize your unique strengths and resources that you already posses.

ACT has a large body of empirical data to support its role in treating a wide range of mental health struggles, and is increasingly being recognized as a powerful therapeutic intervention. Through this framework, we will work together to change your relationship with whatever it is that brings you into therapy, increase your sense of self, be able to live in the present without wanting to run away from it, and commit to taking actions guided by your values.

Interpersonal process therapy is another well-researched, effective tool for mental health concerns. The therapeutic alliance between us can provide information about your interpersonal characteristics outside of therapy, which provides us the opportunity to develop self-awareness and broaden our understanding of how you relate with others. This allows you to be better equipped to strengthen your relationship with others more constructively and confidently.

My practice strives to provide trauma-informed and culturally affirming care for you, and I am committed to grounding my work in cultural humility through ongoing learning and growth.

My Approach

While I love my professional role as a psychologist, it is only a part of who I am as a person. My idea of rest and/ or fun includes traveling, enjoying different cuisines, cooking up new recipes, or hanging out with my family. A few fun facts about me:

  1. Growing up in Malaysia where we get summer all year long, I love the mild winter season we get in Texas and the occasional snow days!

  2. I hate cardio and prefer yoga and weight-lifting when I want to move my body.

  3. My favorite animals are elephants and giraffes. I would love to check out safaris one day in Kenya or South Africa!

MY VALUES

Change

I am dedicated to provide a mental wellness space for you to be able to make meaningful changes. Therapy is more than just “talk”- often times it involves a lot of emotional risk taking, which is why we always stress that therapy needs to be a safe space. I strive to create a trusting relationship for us to explore your fears or threats, and to risk by engaging in new and healthy ways for potential change!

Compassion

Therapy is a space for you to experience safety and healing. To me, compassion plays a big part in that journey. Being able to experience compassion from others is crucial for you to be able to develop the skills to help you with self-compassion.

Cultural Humility

I recognize the privilege to serve as a mental health provider and pledge to provide care with humility and respect. It is my focus to learn about your cultural background and experiences, as they are all important part of your story that makes you who you are today. Through these conversations, I seek to build respectful and mutual partnerships with you to achieve our goals.
